Body Image Academy
Facilitator training for the Reflections: Body Image Program
Reflections: Body Image Academy (BIA) is a three-day interactive workshop designed to prepare students and/or professional staff to implement the Reflections: Body Image Program in their respective organizations. Tri Delta’s creation of BIA enables organizations—including other Greek-letter organizations and colleges and universities—to adopt, adapt and facilitate the program according to their own needs and structure while still maintaining the integrity of the overall research design and program model.
Attendance
The BIA curriculum consists of two tracks: one for collegiate women and one for seasoned student affairs, educational programming and/or counseling professionals. The collegiate track is designed for students from sorority chapters participating in the Reflections: Body Image Program. These students will serve as their chapters’ Body Image Coordinators and Lead Peer Facilitators in the implementation and facilitation of the program. The professional track is intended for staff members of Greek organizations, colleges or universities who intend to implement the Reflections program on a larger scale in one or more Greek chapters. Examples include headquarters personnel charged with chapter services or educational programming, counseling center or recreation services staff, campus Greek Life professionals, and student affairs administrators.
Importance
Attendance at BIA will provide program participants with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to implement Reflections: Body Image Program. BIA attendees will learn program logistics, facilitation techniques, and skills to supervise peer leaders. Student participants will be taught how to return home and implement the program in their own chapters and organizations, including steps to identify and train fellow
peer leaders, prepare materials, schedule and coordinate group mechanics, facilitate discussion and exercises, and manage follow-up activities once the formal program has been completed.
In addition to those activities described above, participants in the professional track will also spend time learning about sororities and the unique characteristics that differentiate these Greek-letter organizations from other student groups on campus. Topics for this special session, known as “Sorority 101,” include the underlying values of Greek-letter organizations, the language used to describe and work with sororities, the distinctive relationship between campus chapters and their respective [inter]national organizations, and the vital importance of student leadership and engagement in the overall planning process.
